  • Listening comprehension during shared reading is a basic skill that prepares children for the language demands of kindergarten. The ASC is useful for assessing this skill in a wide range of young children, including those with language impairments and developmental disabilities, those who may need language intervention, and young English-language learners (ELLs). It can also be used for progress monitoring.

The ASC consists of six short tests, each with a teacher script, story, and eight literal and inferential comprehension questions.

    Administration and Scoring
Each test can be administered in only 3 minutes, and quickly scored. The ASC has been shown to be highly valid and reliable.
