  • Description
The SAGES-3 is a norm-referenced test used to identify students who are gifted and/or talented in general intellectual ability and academic aptitude. The SAGES-3 has two levels: K-3 and 4-8. Each level has four subtests:
    • Nonverbal Reasoning ability to solve problems by identifying relationships among figures and pictures.
    • Language Arts/Social Studies achievement in language arts (i.e. literature, writing) and social studies.
    • Verbal Reasoning ability to solve problems by identifying relationships between pairs of words.
    • Mathematics/Science abilities in mathematics and science

    • The SAGES-3 was normed on a nationally representative stratified sample of 1,834 students.

      Administration and Scoring
Each subtest of the SAGES-3 can be administered in 15 to 30 minutes. Subtests scores are reported as scaled scores. Standard scores are also provided for three composites: Reasoning Ability, Academic Ability, and General Ability.

      Reliability and Validity

      • Cronbachs Alpha values ranged from 0.81 to 0.96 for the subtests and from 0.91 to 0.98 for the composites.
      • For the SAGES-3: K-3 a General Ability Index cutoff score of 126 resulted in a sensitivity of 0.74, a specificity of 0.96, and a ROC/AUD of 0.94.
      • For the SAGES-3: 4-8 a General Ability Index cutoff score of 120 resulted in a sensitivity of 0.80, a specificity of 0.88, and a ROC/AUD of 0.93.
